I also have some ideas for HDD and SSD mounting using the same enclosure, but that is in the realm of wishful thinking.
#APPLE G5 CASE PC MAC#
I have some cable management ideas, that requires me to disassemble the Mac PSU and use the case from it. I have an idea for the PSU, but I’m not entirely sure if it will fit. Part 4: finding a place for all the hardware. The last resort is buying a second hand case and riping the back panel off of it. Not really sure about that but I will see. Basically use the GPU mounting bracket from the mining frame as a PCIe mounting bracket. I have an idea to simply remove the back panel and cut an IO opening and PCIe opening. I honestly have no earthly clue how I’m going to do that. There are no dedicated modding stores here so I have to do whatever I can with whatever I have. I’m gonna use the standoffs from the original board to mount the motherboard tray. The idea is to get a cheap ass mining frame and use the motherboard tray from it. Take out everything to the point I can paint the case, so basically take everything apart. I really like the case, the open mesh front, the solid alumin(i)um construction, the simple look…Īnd to be fair I really need to thinker with something. Pretty sure they still do that for iPods, but like I said, don't know if it is for Macs or not.I found really cheap Mac G5. I don't know if it's still the case, but I know that at one point Apple offered a 10% discount on the purchase of a new Mac if you brought in an old one to trade in for recycling. Personally, in the end I decided to keep mine and use it as a central server for my house so that I could save hard disk space on my MacBook by linking to the G5 for my iTunes, documents that several different local computers are going to want access to, and such. The drive should then have all space available. For use of a 3 TB or 4 TB drive, partition the drive so that no 1 partition is larger than 2 TB.
#APPLE G5 CASE PC MOD#
Broken powermac g5 case mod with The Laser Hive backplate. 1TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB drives are no problem in the G5, but larger than 2.2 TB breaks a capacity limit for APM ( A pple P artition M ap in formatting is required for boot in a PPC Mac).
#APPLE G5 CASE PC INSTALL#
If you know any serious artists, you may want to see what they're willing to offer you, they'll probably give you the best price of anyone. Install macOS on any PC OpenCore Guide Part 1This entire install can be done from PC. Depending on the graphics card it has installed, it could be rather valuable (I think it's the Radeon card he was looking for, but I forget). One of my artist friends immediately made an offer to me for my G5 tower when I first got it back. then suddenly your computer may cost more for me to have in-hand and working than a more expensive one that comes ready to work (and I don't have to mess with it).įor what it's worth: Mac2Sell offers online estimates for used Apple Macs If I have to buy a drive, pay shipping, etc. Factor in what it'll cost somebody to buy one.

If you're providing a set of retail OS discs, well you could probably get near new value for both Tiger and Leopard retails discs. You're legally required to include them or to erase the upgraded OS. If you're going to sell it with an upgraded OS such as Leopard make sure the buyer gets those discs. If I have to pay $40 for shipping, well, I might just look for a computer that is abut $40 more expensive locally since it's all the same in the end (and locally I can at least see it before buying). Also consider what somebody will have to pay to get their hands on a working computer. Never owned a computer as young as 2 years.Īs for selling, check value on places such as e-bay and Craigslist (CL is good for getting local prices). Thanks for the help guys, but Ill just hang around a few more days for my case. I like my Apple G5 anyways, I can use it for a few more days. he just wants an owner PC with mac design (the G5 case). The only part he likes about mac is the design.
#APPLE G5 CASE PC PRO#
I recall hearing about schools that basically aren't interested in anything that's older than two years, which makes my jaw drop since I have Damn, maybe I should wait until my case does arrive, not worth the possible risk. He will not be able to afford a Mac Pro, or a G5 when Mac Pro is released.

For many anything older than two years is considered on its way to obsolete. I believe there is somebody on the forums who refurbishes old Macs and donates them to schools - maybe a Discussions search might turn up the name. I doubt Apple is interested in anything as old as a G5.
